Administrative or Biographical History The 409 Social Club was formed in April 1940 by older members of the Augustana Lutheran Church in Washington D.C. for perpetuating "the friendships and ties which were formed during the many years we attended services at 409 4th Street." The latter was the old location of the Augustana Lutheran Church, subsequently moved to New Hampshire and V Street, N.W. in that city. There were no minutes kept after 1969 since the meetings at that point became mainly social. The date of the last meeting March 28, 1986.
Scope & Content The collection consists of handwritten and typescript minutes in bound volumes for the period April 1940 to October 1969 (3 volumes), one membership address and telephone book and some loose leaf printed matter. One color photograph is inserted in the last volume of minutes (1962-1969).
