This photograph shows a float in the parade in Rockford, Illinois held for the Swedish Pioneer Centennial Celebration. The float is a white ship with men dressed as sailors aboard. The side of the ship states, "Sea Scouts Ship No 500 - Rockford Catholic Men's Club." Standing on both sides of the street are many men and women. Further along in the procession there is a car. Trees and light poles can be seen in the background of this photograph.
According to The American Swedish Monthly: Swedish Pioneer Centennial 1848-1948 [June 1948 issue found in the Swenson Swedish Immigration Research stacks at: Immig. f E 184 .S23 A7 24251707] "on the morning of June 8 automobiles will bring the party to Rockford, where at 1:00 o'clock a luncheon will be given by the Rockford Committee. At 6:45 p.m. the Swedish Pioneer Centennial Parade will begin its march to the Rockford Stadium where a festival will be held."
