This photograph shows four boys riding their bikes. The focus is on the boy in the middle who wears a large cardboard sign around his neck. The sign shows a picture of Prince Bertil states, "Welcome Prince Bertil" on the front and "I'm a Swede and proud of it." The boys are all dressed in jeans and T-shirts. The back of the photograph states, "1948: Escanaba, Michigan".
According to The American Swedish Monthly: Swedish Pioneer Centennial 1848-1948 [June 1948 issue found in the Swenson Swedish Immigration Research stacks at: Immig. f E 184 .S23 A7 24251707] "on the morning of June 15, members of the delegation will go by air to Escanaba, Michigan, where the Swedes of the Upper Michigan Peninsula will celebrate the Centennial. After an informal lunch at the Ludington Hotel and visiting delegates will view a parade and a festival will be held at the stadium. A dinner is also scheduled for the evening."
