Description On June 4, 1948, President Harry S. Truman awarded Prince Bertil of Sweden the Legion of Merit, Degree of Commander, "In exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the U.S."

The photograph shows President Harry S. Truman presenting the award to Prince Bertil of Sweden. The two men are shaking hands and President Truman is lifting the medal off Prince Bertil's chest.
